Director, Technical Sales

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Research and Development (“R&D”) division of SourceCorp Professional Services is seeking highly motivated individuals who are comfortable identifying R&D opportunities at companies across a wide variety of industries.  The Technical Sales Director works closely with National Business Development Directors to build relationships at CPA firms and other referral sources.  They lead the technical evaluation of prospective client’s R&D tax credit opportunities and determine initial R&D tax credit estimates for potential clients.  This role requires high technical knowledge about the R&D tax credit, calculation methods and documentation requirements.  Knowledge of utilization limitations including minimum tax and passive ownership issues is required.  A high level of risk management is also performed by this role to ensure that clients are properly advised of their R&D credit potential.  This role may also perform Project Manager tasks which include fieldwork, client interviews and an overall review of the final client deliverable.  While the Project Manager role is critical in helping SourceCorp’s clients identify, qualify and quantify R&D activities for federal and state R&D tax credits, the Technical Sales Director’s role is even more critical since initial R&D qualification and risk assessment is performed at this stage. 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 6-10 years’ experience performing or managing R&D Tax Credit projects
  • Prior public accounting experience or experience in a manufacturing environment where product and process research and development are conducted is preferred
  • Experience working within a sales capacity to qualify R&D Tax Credit prospects is preferred

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to the highest degree of professional standards and client confidentiality
  • Build relationships with CPA firms and referral sources while partnering with a Business Development Director.  Provide thorough technical guidance to CPA’s and other business advisors as they evaluate the R&D tax credit for their clients.   
  • Lead high level interviews with senior management at prospective clients in order to gain an understanding of client operations, processes and R&D efforts to determine an estimate of the R&D tax credit benefit.
  • Preparation of estimates and R&D tax credit proposals, and presentation of the final client deliverable.
  • Maintain active communication with client management and project managers to manage expectations, gather required information, and ensure deadlines are met.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering or Software
  • CPA certification or professional engineering experience highly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior analytical skills and strong attention to detail
  • Ability to develop and maintain outstanding client relationships
  • Strong working knowledge of computer applications, specifically Microsoft Word and Excel
  • 40 – 50% overnight travel required
